Heather (Chik) Plinovich, Ph.D., HSPP is a licensed clinical psychologist and the founder and director of the Anxiety & OCD Behavioral Health Center (AOBHC). She is a former board member of OCD Midwest and started their free virtual group consultation for providers who work with OCD in Indiana. Dr. Plinovich is licensed in Indiana and has the Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT) in these states under the Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact (PSYPACT). She has nearly two decades of clinical and research experience and is a leading provider of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and exposure and response prevention (ERP) for adults, adolescents, and children with anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) & spectrum disorders, and other related disorders. She is passionate about incorporating other evidence-based interventions including acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness practice, self-compassion, and assertive communication into her work. Dr. Plinovich is trained in Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE), a parent-based treatment program for children and adolescents with anxiety disorders, OCD, avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID), and highly dependent adult children (i.e., 'failure to launch'). When she moved to Northwest Indiana in the late 2000s, she realized that many individuals traveled to Chicago or Indianapolis for quality psychological care. When she founded (AOBHC) in 2013, she wanted to offer the same level of cutting-edge treatments to those who don't have easy access to them in the geographic area.
Dr. Plinovich thoroughly enjoys working with her patients and those who are there to support them (e.g., parents, spouses, teachers, physicians, etc.). Dr. Plinovich brings her expertise in research-based treatments, a healthy dose of humor, sensibility, and passion to her therapy sessions and workplace. In turn, she expects her patients and their families to work hard on implementing treatment strategies towards reclaiming their quality of life.
Dr. Plinovich has trained and worked at several leading providers of anxiety disorders and OCD treatment in Canada and the United States. She was clinically trained by Dr. Alec C. Pollard at the Anxiety Disorder Center at St. Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute, by Dr. Karen L. Cassiday at the Anxiety Treatment Center of Greater Chicago, and by Drs. Maureen Whittal and Melisa Robichaud at the Vancouver CBT Centre. She enjoys providing clinical supervision, guest lecturing, and giving presentations at various academic and clinical settings in Northwest Indiana and the Chicagoland area. She served as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychology at Indiana University Northwest, and was a member of the communications committee for the Indiana Psychological Association.
Dr. Plinovich has published in professional journals and co-written book chapters (many under her maiden name Chik), and enjoys speaking at conferences and various community events. She holds a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (formerly the Chicago Medical School) with Dr. John Calamari as her supervisor.
