What is Clinical Perfectionism? Clinical perfectionismis characterized by a relentless striving for extreme high standards for him/herself and for other people. It commonly occurs along with anxiety disorders, OCD and related disorders, and depression. Typically, to an outsider, the standards are considered to be unreasonable given the circumstances. The person typically judges his/her self-worth based largely on his/her ability to strive for and achieve such unrelenting standards. Also, the person experiences negative consequences of setting such demanding standards, yet he/she continues to go for them despite the cost.
